Where is Monterey?

Monterey is 112 miles south of San Fransisco located on the Monterey peninsula. It is surrounded by beautiful beaches and coastline.

Monterey is located next to Carmel, Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach.

The population of Monterey is just under 30,000.

Monterey is home to the world renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium which attracts millions of visitors a year. The aquarium is also located on Cannery Row, the location of the famous book by John Steinbeck of the same name.

Cannery Row sports many restaurants, shops and attractions for every type of visitor.

From Cannery Row you can take a walk on the scenic bike trail and head towards New Monterey and the Wharf. On the way you are sure to see an abundance of wildlife from birds to the boisterous sea lions. You might even be lucky enough to see a frolicking sea otter!

The Wharf is another famous attraction of Monterey with its own shops and restaurants. Make sure you take advantage of the free clam chowder samples along the way.

Going towards New Monterey there is the small downtown area of Alvarado where the locals hang out. Don’t miss the famous Farmers Market which takes place on Tuesdays!

Monterey is full of history. You might be interested to know that it was the first capital of California! Take a walk along the Historic Trail called the Path of History.

Monterey is a great place to visit all year round. The weather here is a near constant 68 degrees and Monterey sports a temperate climate.
